The Instrumental Music program at Cardinal O’Hara High School is one of pride, excellence, and tradition. Over the years, our performing ensembles have established themselves as some of the most cherished in the Delaware County and Greater Philadelphia area. It has performed throughout its rich history in field and parade competitions, concert adjudications, and national festivals, consistently winning superior and top ratings. It has even had the privilege to perform at the Academy of Music and play for popes and a president. Our Marching Band is featured in both the Springfield and Philadelphia St. Patrick's Day parades. They also had the honor of leading the Philadelphia Phillies into opening day at Citizen's Bank Park from 2004 to 2015.

The O'Hara Concert Band has been invited to play at Temple University's Festival of the Winds since 2018.
The O’Hara Band has had the honor of leading the Philadelphia Phillies into Opening Day every year since the opening of Citizens Bank Park from 2004 to 2015.
The O'Hara Marching Band has participated in the renowned Philadelphia St. Patrick's Day Parade every year since 1980. In 2014, they were selected to lead off the parade. They won the Hon. Vincent A. Carroll Award for Outstanding Musical Unit at the parade in 2022, 2017, 2001, and 1984. In 2010, they received the James F. Cawley Parade Director's Award.
Our Color Guard was awarded a gold medal in the 2017 Tournament Indoor Association competition, becoming Scholastic Class A champions.
The O'Hara Band was chosen by the Vatican to perform for Pope Francis at the 2015 World Meeting of Families departure ceremony at the Atlantic Aviation in Philadelphia.
In May of 1985, the O'Hara Concert Band, together with the band front, performed "A Salute to the Masters" at Philadelphia's Academy of Music, covering masterpieces from George Frederic Handel to John Philip Sousa.
The O'Hara Band had the prestigious honor of performing at the Inauguration of President Ronald Reagan.
In October of 1979, the O'Hara Band performed for Saint Pope John Paul II at the Philadelphia International Airport. He appeared filled with emotion when the O'Hara Band members played one of his favorite tunes, "The Highland Song," and delayed getting into his limousine to greet them personally after they struck up "Stars 'N Stripes."
In 1970, the O'Hara Band made a professionally-recorded album of their concert band music, and it was even sold in the O'Hara school store!
