Grade School Band Immersion Day
Our Grade School Band Immersion Day takes place annually in the spring and is a day filled with exciting, fun, and most importantly, musical activities for students in 6th-8th grade. Throughout the day students participate in masterclasses with our woodwind, brass, and percussion instructors, spend time hearing from current band members about their musical education experience at O'Hara, and listen to our various ensembles perform. At the end of the day, participating students join the O'Hara Concert Band in rehearsal in the St. John Vianney Auditorium.
Solo and Small Ensemble Festival
Our Solo and Small Ensemble Festival is an opportunity for grade school students to perform in an adjudicated event as soloists and/or members of small groups as opposed to a full-fledged concert band. Participating students perform before at least musical clinician who then offers individual feedback to the soloists and/or small ensembles. At the end of the festival, students receive their respective adjudication rank: Superior, Excellent, Good, or Fair.
Summer Music @ O'Hara
Summer Music @ O'Hara is a summer camp for 6th-8th grade band students that provides a musical summer experience of learning, music-making, and fun. In addition to the full Concert Band, students will have the opportunity to select electives ranging from Jazz Improvisation, Music Technology, Hand Drumming, and more! The camp is staffed by O'Hara's own instrumental music faculty with the assistance of Cardinal O'Hara instrumental music students. Scholarships are available to help reduce the cost of camp tuition.
Grade School Band Night
Each fall, 6th-8th grade band students are invited to join us at a home football game. Grade School students join us for a pre-game rehearsal and pizza dinner, followed by marching onto the field to the beat of our drumline's cadence! We sit together in the stands cheering the O'Hara football team, and grade school students then see the Marching Band's halftime show.
