Beloved band director and virtuoso Delaware County musician, Ted Pasternak, touched the lives of many through his love for life, passion for music, and gifts for teaching. He was a talented educator, an inspirational conductor, and an entertaining performer. Ted took equal pride in playing at Carnegie Hall with legendary greats such as Andrea Bocelli and Luciano Pavarotti or playing in the Band Room with his many devoted students. His joyful and vibrant work at Cardinal O’Hara High School and in Springfield School District created a legacy of dedicated musicians and a community of enlightened and engaged listeners.

Who We Are

Founded in the spring of 2019, the Ted Pasternak Memorial Community Band is comprised of residents of Delaware County and the surrounding areas. Many of our members are students and graduates of local high schools and colleges, including many past students of Ted. ​Joe Reitano '89 and Linda Terry '88 performed in and co-conducted the band in its formal debut Christmas Concert in 2019. The band is open to all instrumentalists in 8th-12th grade, college students, and adults of all ages in the community. 

​We are always looking for musicians to join our ranks! Even if you haven't touched your instrument in years, we'd love to have you join us!

Our Mission

The mission of the Ted Pasternak Memorial Community Band is to provide high-quality musical experiences for musicians in 8th grade and up, and to educate and entertain audiences of all ages in the vicinity.

Be a part of the Band!

We are always looking for musicians!  At this time the Pasternak Community Band is seeking out musicians in all sections of the band!  Our concert band is comprised of standard concert band instrumentation including:

• Woodwind instruments: flute, clarinet, bass clarinet, oboe, bassoon, and all saxophones
• Brass: trumpet, French horn, trombone, euphonium/baritone, tuba
• Percussion: snare, bass drum, timpani, mallet keyboards, and all manner of other drums and percussion auxiliary instruments

Interested members should have three years of high school playing experience.  Students in 8th grade may audition when registering. Playing experience does not have to be recent!
